HB&L RDA are thrilled to have received an enormous £1,100 donation from Hurtwood House School – which was raised by the students undertaking a 12-mile sponsored walk between all the schoolhouses across the campus. This is very much uphill and down dale for the students, no small feat but we understand there is an element of competitiveness with some of the students aiming to break the school record!

Ahead of the sponsored walk, we were invited in to give a talk about the work that HB&L RDA do and thank the Hurtwood team for selecting us as their charity of the year (we were nominated by an ex-pupil Josh McGann, who now volunteers for the RDA as well as running our bar at the annual Barn Dance). We had the opportunity to explain to the pupils about our history, the important work we do and the life changing impact we create for our riders and the volunteers who support us. Our Q&A session was stimulating – with pupils guessing how much the ponies shoes cost (if only it was £10 a set – that was the first guess!), to wondering how much it costs to run our charity each year (we eventually got to the correct £90k+ position).
We are always grateful for the support of our local community, and the fundraising efforts – big and small – which help us with ensuring that we can continue to maintain and grow our special charity.

We give a huge thank you to all the students who participated in the sponsored walk, and the school who fund matched their sponsorship achievements. Well done to each and every one of you.
