We are delighted to have been chosen by the Bookham Butterflies WI as their nominated charity of the year - which means their funding raising efforts will go towards HB&L RDA. It's lovely to be recognised from within our local community for the great work that we do, and Bookham WI are looking forward to learning more about the positive impact we make.
They invited the trustees to book a table at their hugely popular quiz night at the end of April. It was a total toughie - and we were pleased to not completely disgrace ourselves (it has to be said the non-trustee attendees were our intellectual lynchpins - thank you for all your contributions!) by coming a joint third!

The WI raised over £900 for this event alone - so we are really grateful for their support and planning such a brilliant evening, with wonderful raffle prizes on offer too.
Their witty write up of the evening is below:
On Monday 28th April 2025 Bookham Butterflies WI held their 11th charity quiz night, in aid of the Horsley, Bookham & Leatherhead Riding for the Disabled (RDA), their charity of the year. Teams, thirteen in total, all with Horse related names were champing at the bit to win.
The picture round, ‘Cool Cats’, was a challenging round with teams attempting to recognizing twenty cartoon cat character. With village day approaching some teams struggled with the ‘Bears’ themed round, so some homework is still needed before June. By round 3, ‘Sugar Cube Squad’ was leading the field, with the rest of the field chasing their tails. Next up was a bit of a challenge, as it was built on the Britishness Citizenship test, with some of the teams not reaching the Government’s 75% pass rate. Most teams played their Jokers on Round 5, ‘Hobbies, Games & Pastimes’, in this closely run race. That stated by the end of the evening no team had managed to score a perfect ten on any of the seven rounds played!
Well done to team ‘Pony Pals’ who were the racers of the night, winning a grand total of 70 out of the 100 points available. The RDA team ‘Stablemates’ came a valiant joint 3rd with ‘The Eventers’, both just a few lengths behind. Judging from the noise in the hall everyone had a good evening, raising a staggering £900 from their endeavours for the charity.
